- Description
Strathcona (formerly Mount Pleasant) not only comfortably fended off Gordon Campbell’s 2001 landslide, but has also seen two second place finishes from the BC Greens. - While it may bleed as deep orange as its East Van brethren, its demographic makeup differs markedly from other NDP strongholds east of Main, having both the highest Indigenous population in the entire City as well as a much lower amount of immigrants.
- Home to Chinatown, Strathcona, and chunks of Mount Pleasant and Grandview-Woodland, the riding is home to both the most subsidized housing in the province and a slew of new apartments. Despite their differing socioeconomic circumstances, the residents of both groups are firmly behind the NDP.
- If Joan Phillip’s landslide victory in the 2023 by-election was anything to go by, the only race here on election night will be for second.
